Blankenhof was first mentioned in the 1805 state calendar of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. In 1847, Blankenhof was separated from the feudal estate of Gevezin and elevated to an independent principal and male fief. Gevezin has its own, earlier recorded date: the village was first mentioned in a document in 1311 and was formerly a triangular village arranged around a village green. The dates differ according to place and event: 1311 refers to Gevezin, 1805 to the mention of Blankenhof, and 1847 to its change in status. A village arranged around a green is a settlement form built around a communal village green; Gevezin's former layout was triangular.
