The western part of Jabel lies in the Nossentiner/Schwinzer Heath Nature Park. Between Lake Jabel and Lake Kölpin lies Damerower Werder, a protected area where European bison have lived in an enclosure since 1957. Jabel is located around ten kilometres from Waren (Müritz) and is officially recognised as a tourist destination in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
