Lake and landscape
Lake Schwarzer See merges into Lake Zethner See to the south. Fishing and paddling are possible on Lake Schwarzer See; motorboats are prohibited. This restriction is part of the guidance for enjoying the water: the activities mentioned are subject to a clear ban on motorboats. Cycling through Schwarz
The signposted Ice Age Route is 666 kilometers long and runs directly through the municipality of Schwarz. Its route through the village makes it a notable point of reference for a trip that combines cycling with landscapes shaped by ice. The boulder and stone garden in the village center is also part of the Ice Age Route. Its exhibits come from the area around Schwarz.
Another way to explore the area is the cycling tour “The Southern Lakes Loop.” It passes through Schwarz and then continues to Mirow. The two routes offer different points of reference: the Ice Age Route is described by its total length and its route through the municipality, while the Southern Lakes Loop continues beyond Schwarz to Mirow.
Village history and collections
Schwarz village church was built in 1767 in the Neoclassical style and has a projecting west tower. Its fully preserved interior is decorated in simple Rococo forms. The organ also has its own date: Carl Börger built it in 1907. The church, its interior and the organ offer several specific aspects through which to explore the village’s architectural and cultural history.
The Schwarz local history museum presents the rural history of the village. Its exhibition also includes fossils, minerals and glacial erratics. If you’re particularly interested in the area’s stone heritage, you can also visit the boulder and stone garden in the village center. Opposite the boulder garden, a scientifically curated stone collection is housed in a former school building. The garden and the collection each have a distinct focus: the garden displays exhibits from the surrounding area, while the collection is housed in the former school building.
