Discover nature in the Recknitz Valley

The Gruel Nature Conservation Station provides information about the wildlife of the Recknitz and its valley moor. Animal specimens and illustrated panels show typical species of the region. The station also provides information about fish, large freshwater mussels and the dragonfly fauna of the Recknitz Valley, among other topics. Visitors can explore the exhibition independently and free of charge. If you are interested in nature and habitats, this offers a way to explore topics that are also featured along the surrounding trails.

One specific hiking destination is the nature trail in the Tribohmer Bachtal. The circular route is about 6 km long and runs between Gruel and Tribohm. It was completed with a total of 14 information panels on October 24, 2023. The panels provide information about the area's flora and fauna as well as specific topics relating to the landscape. The approximate distance gives you a guide for planning your day; the panels focus on nature and the landscape.

Another route with a connection to the region is a section of the Recknitztal Circular Trail – Lower Recknitz Valley. It runs through Daskow, Pantlitz and Tribohm in the municipality of Ahrenshagen-Daskow. While the nature trail is described as a circular route about 6 km long, this is a section of a circular trail. This gives you the choice between a named circular route and a route that passes through several places in the municipality.

Village churches and cycling culture

The churches also offer different points of interest. Ahrenshagen village church features medieval vault paintings. Since Pentecost 2006, the village church in Pantlitz has been a cycling church and was the first of its kind in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. It is a tourist stop for cycle tourists on the Vineta Trail. This trail connects the European long-distance paths E9 and E10, which run from Saint Petersburg to Gibraltar. Pantlitz thus offers a specific cultural attraction for travellers interested in village churches or cycling routes.

The annual choral gathering “Pantlitzer Burgwallsingen” also takes place in Pantlitz village church every June. The event gives the village a recurring musical occasion in the annual calendar. Canoe and boat rest stops in Pantlitz and Daskow

There are rest stops for waterway travellers in Pantlitz and Daskow, with different facilities at each. The Pantlitz waterway rest stop has a landing stage and offers a view of the cycling church. There are no toilets or sanitary facilities there. The Daskow rest stop has a landing place and a fire pit; camping is permitted. There are no supply or disposal facilities there. The anglers’ club’s sanitary facilities may be used by arrangement.
