Altenpleen is located northwest of Stralsund and is a municipality in the Vorpommern-Rügen district of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The landscape within the Amt Altenpleen administrative area stretches between the Strelasund and the Grabower Bodden; it is characterized by extensive fields, forests, and tree-lined avenues. Stralsund, Hiddensee, and the Zingst Peninsula are in the immediate vicinity.
