Cranes and the Günzer Seewiesen

From KRANORAMA, you have a direct view of the Günzer Seewiesen. The area is a European Special Protection Area for birds and a National Natural Heritage site; Kranichschutz Deutschland is developing it in a way that is compatible with nature conservation. This protected landscape provides the setting for observing birdlife. During the crane roosting season, up to 4,000 cranes can sometimes be seen from KRANORAMA from morning until evening. At the same time, thousands of geese and ducks, as well as numerous white-tailed eagles, may be visible. If you want to plan your travel dates around this experience, bear in mind that crane roosting is seasonal.

The walk from the car park to the observation station is also worth knowing about before your visit: information boards and places to sit line the path, and visitors make their way to KRANORAMA in stages. The station itself is accessible. When planning your trip, you can therefore take nature watching and the route to the station into account as separate considerations, without confusing them with the Erlebniszentrum’s offerings.

Outdoor Worlds and Events

The KRANICHWELTEN Erlebniszentrum offers a different focus. Its 20,000 m² outdoor area includes walk-through insect and moorland worlds, as well as places to sit and relax. If you would like to include these nature themes in your stay alongside birdwatching, this offers a distinct focus for your visit. The NABU KRANICHWELTEN Erlebniszentrum is also a starting point for numerous excursions and other events, including the annual “Week of the Crane,” held in September.

Getting to Günz and a cycling route from Barth

Bus route 305 runs from Stralsund and Barth to Günz. From the stop, it is about 500 m on foot to KRANICHWELTEN. You can therefore plan to travel by bus for a visit to the Erlebniszentrum; the distance given refers to the walk from the stop to the centre.

There is also a cycling route from Barth to KRANICHWELTEN via the Baltic Sea Cycle Route, Nisdorf and Günz. It is about 18 km long and passable throughout. This gives cyclists both a starting point in Barth and the route. The approximate distance can help you fit the ride into your day; no journey time or route profile is specified.

A historical point of interest in Altenpleen

Alongside its natural attractions, Altenpleen also has a historical point of interest: Gutshaus Altenpleen. This listed manor house was built in the second half of the 19th century on the site of a former manor estate. Its history adds an architectural and historical dimension to the area’s natural attractions.
