Prohn is situated in a flat landscape behind the Prohner Wiek. The town is located in the district of Vorpommern-Rügen, around six kilometers northwest of Stralsund. The named bodies of water include the Prohn Reservoir and the dammed Prohner Bach.

History

Prohn was first mentioned in a document dating from 1240. In the past, the town was the seat of a princely bailiwick and the Principality of Rügen.
