Alt Meteln is situated in a ground moraine landscape. Its hills rise around 30 meters above the level of Lake Schwerin to the east and the upper Stepenitz Valley to the west. The Aubach flows through the area of Alt Meteln in the direction of Schwerin. The highest elevation in Alt Meteln is the Alandsberg, located in the Neu Meteln locality, which lies 74 meters above sea level.
Lieps, Goldburg, and Schwanenhorst are located in the area surrounding Alt Meteln. Alandsberg is in the immediate vicinity.
Culture and Schwerin
In the wider regional area are the Schwerin State Museum and the Schwerin-Zippendorf Television Tower. The Schwerin Cathedral and St. John's Church, Schwerin, as well as Schwerin Cathedral, are also located in the vicinity of Alt Meteln.
