Korswandt is located three kilometers south of Ahlbeck on the B 110, in the Usedom Island Nature Park and on Lake Wolgast. The village is situated on Usedom near the seaside resort of Heringsdorf and in the island’s hinterland.
Location and landscape
The wider Korswandt area includes Lake Gothen to the west, Lake Krebssee in the forest east of Ulrichshorst, and Schwarze Herz southeast of Lake Wolgast. In the approximate vicinity, the islands of Usedom, Mielin, and Böhmke are each listed as islands. Heringsdorf Dog Beach is also listed approximately nearby as a beach.
Townscape and history
Korswandt bears traces of early settlement. A group of Bronze Age burial mounds is located south of the village. The village is considered a linear roadside settlement; historically, it consisted of farmsteads in the north and a row of workers’ cottages in the south.
Protected buildings are listed in Korswandt and in the district of Ulrichshorst. A 1924 inn on the former B 110 toward Ahlbeck is listed and described as a manor house resembling the resort architecture.
