Zarnewanz: Hotels and Accommodation

Zarnewanz is located in the Rostock district of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and in the Mecklenburg Baltic Coast travel region. The hiking area is connected to the Recknitz Valley. The associated landscape is gently varied and comprises forests, meadows, fields, small ponds and typical Mecklenburg kettle holes.

Landscape and Nature

Parts of the municipality of Zarnewanz belong to the Reppeliner Bachtal nature reserve. The Recknitz catchment area associated with the Zarnewanz region is considered a habitat for a diverse range of animal and plant life. These include otters, cranes, white storks, white-tailed eagles and several rare or endangered species.

Hiking

Signposted paths run along an old beet railway track, avenues and rows of trees, through village landscapes and across open fields with views over the Recknitz Valley. Hiking highlights associated with the Zarnewanz region include a wild apple tree described as Germany’s oldest, megalithic and burial mounds, as well as a large glacial erratic.

Culture and Experiences

In the immediate vicinity of Zarnewanz are Lieper Burg, Moto-Cross at Echoberg and Lustberg. In the surrounding area are Marlow Bird Park, Kucksdorfer Burg, the village church in Basse, a district of the municipality of Lühburg, and the Ludolf Arena. Dornbusch lies in the wider regional surroundings of Zarnewanz. Stormstorf was first mentioned in 1268, and the manor house dates from 1871.
