Kirkkonummi: Coast, Nature Trails and History
Accommodation in Kirkkonummi
Kirkkonummi can be explored through a range of travel interests: the rocky shores of Porkkalanniemi, several trails around Lake Meiko, historic farm buildings and a ski area for children. When planning a trip, it is therefore helpful to first decide what you would most like to focus on. Landscapes, specific trail lengths, a traditional farm and seasonal activities each shape a different picture of a stay. This guidance can also help structure your search for accommodation.
Coastal scenery at Porkkalanniemi
Porkkalanniemi is characterised by rocky shores, pine forest and beautiful views of the sea. These three features create a distinct coastal and natural character: rocks, forest and sea views all form part of the landscape. If this is the setting you are looking for in Kirkkonummi, you can consider it as a travel focus in its own right, alongside trails, museums and historic buildings. The landscape takes centre stage at Porkkalanniemi, while the Meiko trails also offer specific distances and destinations.
Meiko: trails by length and destination
Three trails around Lake Meiko differ in length and route. Kuikankierros is 3.2 km long and leads from the Lake Meiko car park to the lake and around the Näseudden peninsula. The 8.3 km Meikonkierros runs around the lake; there is a campfire site along the route. Kotokierros is 4.4 km long and leads from the Meiko car park to the ponds on the Dorgarn plateau: Korsolampi, Immerlampi, Kakarlampi, Kotolampi and Mustjärvi. Kotokierros also has a campfire site, as well as a tent site. The trails can be distinguished by their specific destination and length: a peninsula, a loop around the lake or several named ponds. Choosing the trail that interests you most first can help you use distance as an additional criterion.
Farm history and museum opening hours
The Ragvalds Museum area is a traditional farm on the old King's Road. Twelve of the farm's buildings remain in their original locations. Their number and location make the farm a tangible historic ensemble; those interested in farming history and preserved buildings can consider it alongside coastal scenery and nature trails. In 2026, Hvitträsk Museum was open from 1 May to 30 September, Wednesday to Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. For planning a visit, both the day of the week and the time were therefore important; check the current opening hours when planning a future trip. Ragvalds and Hvitträsk offer different points of interest: one is a farm with buildings in their original locations, while the other is a museum with a specific visiting period set for 2026.
Ski facilities with seasonal operation
Peuramaa Ski has a dedicated ski area for children, as well as Finland's longest magic carpet lift and a range of themed activities. This is a distinct activity focus alongside coastal scenery, trails and historic sites. Check seasonal operations before your trip if Peuramaa is to be part of your stay.
