Włodowo is located in the historic region of Upper Prussia (Prusy Górne). Two kilometers west of the village, the Pasłęka River flows; the river forms the boundary between Warmia and Upper Prussia.

The year 1384 is documented for Włodowo under the name Waltirsdorf.
