Laboe

Laboe is located at the entrance to Kiel Fjord and became a Baltic Sea resort as early as 1875. Its three-kilometre-long beach has numerous offshore sandbanks, making it particularly family-friendly. Laboe’s two marinas have almost 800 berths between them, making them an ideal starting point for sailing trips towards Kiel Bay and Southern Denmark. The many historic sailing ships in the commercial harbour, and especially the fish-focused restaurants, convey an authentic Baltic Sea atmosphere. Laboe’s and Kiel’s military traditions are commemorated by the Naval Memorial, inaugurated in 1936—a 72-metre-high tower offering excellent views from afar—and by the former German Navy submarine U-995, placed in front of it in 1972. A marine biology station provides fascinating insights into the underwater world of the Baltic Sea.
With around 500,000 day visitors a year, the Baltic Sea resort of Laboe is one of Schleswig-Holstein’s most important seaside resorts.
