At the eastern part of Kiel Firth is located the seaside health resort of Laboe. The former Slavic fishing village was firstly mentioned in the documents before 1200’s. With the foundation of nearby Kiel the imperial naval port Laboe which is situated not far from this city had already become a seaside resort in 1875. Nevertheless, the old village centre has been kept in the upper village.
The seaside health resort of Laboe with its three-kilometer-long beach belongs to the most significant spas in Schleswig-Holstein. It has more than 500.000 visitors every year. It goes without saying that the marine tourism is prevailing here.
The yacht harbor with 300 moorings, numerous old sailing ships and fish selling form an incredibly nice marine atmosphere. In addition to this there is a sea-biological station which provides interesting facts about the underwater world of the Baltic Sea. The sea water in the indoor swimming pool offers active recreational possibilities not depending on the weather.
Laboe has primarily been known for its naval monument, view platform and originally preserved submarine.
