Graal-Müritz

The seaside health resort of Graal-Müritz lies between the Baltic Sea and the Rostock Heath, one of the largest forest areas in northern Germany. Its location combines, like few other Baltic seaside resorts, the climatic benefits of the Baltic coast with the forest’s microclimate. The Rostock Heath, which borders directly on the seaside resort, is a large forest area adjoining the “Großes Ribnitzer Moor” nature reserve. The four-kilometre-long, fine sandy beach is an excellent complement.
Numerous buildings in the traditional resort architecture style still characterise the centre of the seaside resort. One of its special attractions is the four-hectare rhododendron park, created between 1955 and 1961 on the site of an old sand pit. With more than 2,500 plants, it is considered the seaside resort’s main attraction and is one of the largest parks of its kind in Germany. Even so, the beach remains the most important draw for visitors to Graal-Müritz. Its broad stretch of shallow water is particularly well suited to families with children. Situated just east of Rostock , Graal-Müritz also forms the gateway to the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula, a popular tourist region on the Baltic coast.
