Jastarnia (Heisternest) and Jurata
Almost halfway along the Hel Peninsula (Hela) lies the town of Jastarnia (German: Heisternest). With the construction of the railway line to the town of Hel in 1922, seaside tourism began to develop in Jastarnia. The town is located at one of the wider points of the spit, where the distance between the two coasts is just under two kilometres. The elongated town features both historic buildings in the form of fishermen’s cottages and modern hotels and guesthouses. The town centre is particularly picturesque, with narrow cobbled streets and old houses.

With its harbour, a favourite destination for recreational sailors, and the broad Baltic beach north of the wooded dune belt, Jastarnia offers every opportunity for a relaxing, active family holiday on the Baltic coast.
The seaside resort of Jurata, a few kilometres east of Jastarnia, is part of the municipality. With the construction of exclusive villas, mainly for Warsaw’s high society, as well as hotels, Jurata developed into one of Poland’s most fashionable seaside resorts before the outbreak of the war, earning the nickname “Polish Palm Beach.” After the war, and especially from 1990 onwards, its historic buildings were gradually reconstructed.
