Natural Remedies

The diversity of the Baltic coast lies in its natural conditions for a Baltic Sea holiday, just as it does for any other holiday on a coast anywhere in the world. The seawater and clean air were the starting points and the real reason for the development of coastal tourism.
Thanks to their position where land meets water, the clean air alone makes Baltic seaside resorts health resorts by nature. Anyone who takes a walk on the beach in a sea breeze will feel what is known as surf aerosol. This mixture of finely dispersed seawater and gusty air has an effect similar to that of a salt-air inhalation room—a therapeutic facility once used near salt mines to treat the upper respiratory tract.
In addition, other natural remedies are available on the Baltic coast. First and foremost is seawater itself, when used regularly and in a targeted way. Chalk is also well known, though not primarily as a remedy; it is found on the Baltic coast on the island of Rügen and the Danish island of Møn. Complementing the health-promoting effects of the Baltic climate are therapeutic springs tapped near the coast, often used in conjunction with therapeutic peat mud.
