Trips for Children and Young People
The Baltic Sea is ideal for family holidays. But when young people leave the family nest, they want to explore the world on their own, often on group trips and school outings with their peers at a holiday camp. These trips for children and young people are an established part of everyday culture, and tourism providers cater to them. Although they may not seek the same level of holiday comfort as their parents, children and young people at a children’s camp or holiday camp are still entitled to quality accommodation and activities.
Providers of trips for children and young people respond to these expectations in many different ways. Since 2007, the German Federal Forum for Children’s and Youth Travel has awarded a quality seal to youth tourism facilities.
With its coastline and hinterland, the entire Baltic coast is naturally an ideal destination for school outings and group trips—whether to a holiday camp, children’s camp or children’s holiday camp. Few other regions offer such a wide range of opportunities for activities suited to young people. Options range from swimming at long sandy beaches and active water sports to group experiences in nature and cultural and historical journeys through time.
Youth hostels, residential school camps, children’s holiday camps, youth hotels and facilities run by independent youth organisations have traditionally been popular destinations for trips for children and young people. Increasingly, however, hotels are also recognising the strong demand among children and young people for shared stays in relaxing surroundings. This also includes services for people with disabilities.
The options range from school outings, group trips and holidays at camps to specialist seminars on scientific, social and political, and music and cultural topics, as well as language trips.
