Youth Holidays in Western Pomerania
The region of Western Pomerania is one of the best-known holiday destinations on Germany’s Baltic coast. And, naturally, beaches are very popular with children and young people on holiday. The Western Pomeranian Baltic coast—with the regions of Fischland-Darß-Zingst, the islands of Rügen and Usedom, and the mainland stretching from Stralsund to the Szczecin Lagoon—is among Germany’s most beautiful and popular holiday destinations.

The Fischland-DarĂź-Zingst peninsula, together with the DarĂź Bodden chain of lagoons, includes the steep cliffs of DarĂź near Ahrenshoop, the DarĂź Forest, a natural woodland area, and DarĂźer Ort, which is steadily extending northwards. It also encompasses the long, dune-like Fischland peninsula, with its well-known crane roosting sites at the eastern end.
Rügen is Germany’s largest island and is home to several internationally renowned sights. These include Königsstuhl, a chalk cliff rising more than a hundred metres directly above the water; Cape Arkona, with the remains of a Slavic hillfort; and the elegant seaside resort of Binz.
The Western Pomeranian mainland on the Baltic coast is characterised by its historic towns, from Stralsund via Greifswald, Wolgast and Anklam to Ueckermünde. Inland from the Baltic coast, north of Stralsund, lies one of Germany’s largest crane roosting areas. The Peene River valley west of Anklam and the Ueckermünde Heath are also popular destinations for excursions, renowned for their natural beauty.
Usedom is often considered Germany’s most beautiful island. Its varied natural landscapes and numerous elegant seaside resorts with unique spa architecture are part of its appeal, as is the fact that the eastern part of the island, including Usedom’s largest town, Świnoujście, has belonged to Poland since 1945.
Numerous providers of holidays for children and young people are also based in this region, and most of them can point to a quality certification. Accommodation ranges from traditional youth hostels and specialist youth hotels to places offering an experience-based stay.
