Nature Trails and Landscapes

Vessinge sandhedar can be reached from the car park at Veinge idrottsplats on the outskirts of Veinge. A cycle path between Veinge and Laholm runs near the area. For travellers who want to take cycling into account when choosing where to stay, these offer two different points of reference: the car park provides access to the sandy heath; the cycle path runs between the two places mentioned, close to the area.

Veinge pastoratskog is an easily accessible destination for an outing, with oak woodland; some of the oaks are 130 years old or older. Göstorp skog comprises broadleaf-dominated natural forests, boggy stretches, marshes and lakes. The landscapes described are therefore distinct: oak woodland with some old trees in one place, and natural forest and wetlands in the other.

Biodiversity can also be a nature-related theme during your stay. Salmon, trout and eel, as well as lichens and mosses such as Orangepudrad klotterlav, lunglav, fällmossa and guldlockmossa, have been found in Veinge pastoratskog and its surroundings. Species inventories may change as new surveys are carried out.

Cultural History from Burial Ground to School

Vingshög is considered one of the more impressive Bronze Age burial sites around Veinge kyrkby. Örelids gravfält is an Iron Age burial ground with, among other things, 36 stones, and can be reached from the Neboslingan. The two sites thus represent different prehistoric periods: the Bronze Age at Vingshög and the Iron Age at Örelids gravfält.

Construction of Veinge kyrka took place between 1100 and 1249; it was completed in 1520. Farms around the church have been preserved in Veinge kyrkby. These farms are why the village is still considered an authentic farming village.

In Veinge by, Alsingska skolan, built in 1832, is considered one of Sweden’s oldest primary schools and the oldest school in Halland; it was in operation until 1963. The museum of Veinge Hembygdsförening in Veinge by displays school materials from fifteen closed schools. Its collection also includes hats and hatboxes. If you would like to visit the museum, check with the museum in advance.

The school building and the museum objects shed light on the history of education from two perspectives: the story of a particular building and teaching materials from several closed schools.

Getting Around

Veingebadet has a 25-metre swimming pool with six lanes. Several bus routes stop in Veinge; buses run, among other places, to and from Halmstad, Laholm, Knäred and Markaryd. If you are planning to travel by bus, check routes and timetables before your trip.

The development of the town also has a clear historical starting point: in 1885, the Skåne-Hallands järnväg railway between Helsingborg and Halmstad opened, and a railway station was built in Veinge. This expansion marked the beginning of the development of present-day Veinge.
