Holthusen is located approximately seven kilometers south of Schwerin in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The surrounding area combines historical local references with a number of named destinations in the Schwerin area.

Geographical Location

The municipality includes the localities of Holthusen, Lehmkuhlen, Bahnhof Holthusen, and Buchholz. Holthusen borders Pampow and Schwerin to the north, Lübesse to the east, Sülstorf to the southeast, Alt Zachun to the south, Bandenitz to the southwest, and Warsow to the west. The four localities were historically shaped primarily by agriculture.

History

Holthusen was first documented in 1248. The settlement is also depicted south of Schwerin on a map of the County of Schwerin from 1250.
