Location and Water
Schwanheide is located in western Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, around six kilometres northwest of Boizenburg/Elbe, and borders Schleswig-Holstein. The Mühlenbach flows through the village. The Riedebeck follows the municipality’s northwestern boundary; the Delvenau flows through the Stecknitz-Delvenau nature reserve towards the Elbe along the western boundary.
Four lakes were formed between Schwanheide and Zweedorf as a result of gravel extraction. Schwanheide also has a railway station served by the Berlin–Hamburg railway line.
