Breege is located on the island of Rügen in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Germany, where the Schaabe meets the Wittow peninsula. The town lies on the Breeger Bodden, which is part of the Großer Jasmunder Bodden; to the east, the Baltic Sea bay of Tromper Wiek borders the area.

Culture and History

Breege originated as a Slavic settlement and was first documented in 1313. The town’s maritime heritage is connected with fishermen, seafarers, and sailing ships. Predominantly thatched captains’ houses from the 18th and 19th centuries still bear witness to this history. Breege has been recognized as a seaside resort since 1895; in 1928, Breege and Juliusruh were united as one seaside resort.
