Culture and History

Breege originated as a Slavic settlement and was first documented in 1313. The town’s maritime heritage is connected with fishermen, seafarers, and sailing ships. Predominantly thatched captains’ houses from the 18th and 19th centuries still bear witness to this history. Breege has been recognized as a seaside resort since 1895; in 1928, Breege and Juliusruh were united as one seaside resort.
