Geographical location

Glowe is a municipality on the island of Rügen in the Vorpommern-Rügen district of the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Since the beginning of 2024, Glowe has been designated a Baltic seaside resort.

Glowe was first documented around 1314. The name is associated with the Slavic forms Gluowa or Glovau and with Königshörn Cape.

Numerous routes in the area are classified as easy walks; these include the Tree Nature Trail between Glowe and Breege.

The nearby Jasmund National Park is part of Glowe’s wider hiking surroundings; it is associated with ancient beech forests and chalk cliffs.
