Lohme is a municipality on the island of Rügen in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Germany. The old fishing village lies on the northern edge of the Jasmund Peninsula next to a cliff approximately 50 meters high.
Geographical location
Jasmund National Park borders Lohme. The Jasmund National Park is located in the immediate vicinity of the town. The surrounding area is home to the dog beach, Glowe Beach, Tipper Ort, and Sassnitz Wildlife Park.
Lohme also has a harbor, which was established in 1906 and modernized in 1997. It can be reached via a steep staircase leading down the cliffs.
Culture and history
The area around Lohme was already settled during the Neolithic period. The megalithic tombs include the passage grave near Nipmerow on Magelowberg. Bobbin, with its St. Paul's Church, is also located in the surrounding area of Lohme.
The wider regional area is home to the Erns-Moritz-Arndt Tower and Granitz Hunting Lodge.
