Lütow is located on the Gnitz Peninsula of the island of Usedom, on the shore of the Achterwasser lagoon. The municipality lies within the Usedom Island Nature Park.
Geographical Setting
Lütow is located about nine kilometres east of Wolgast and three kilometres south of Zinnowitz. The B111 runs north of the municipality.
Nature and Early History
Near Lütow, a Neolithic megalithic tomb in the form of a passage grave has been preserved. The tomb is evidence of early human settlement on Usedom.
Surroundings
The nearby surroundings of Lütow include the islands of Görmitz, Möwenort and Breisnal. The Schlossinsel is also located in the surrounding area.
The Trassenheide Butterfly Farm and Wolgast Zoo are located in the area surrounding Lütow. The wider region is home to the Peenemünde power station and the Peenemünde oxygen plant.
