Splietsdorf is a municipality west of Grimmen in the Vorpommern-Rügen district. The Trebel River flows through the southern part of Splietsdorf.

Location

The A20 runs south of Splietsdorf. Access is via the Grimmen-West junction, which is approximately 13 km away.

The surrounding area of Splietsdorf includes, among other attractions, Grimmen Wildlife Park, a zoo, as well as RuheForst Rügen/Abtshagen, a park. The wider regional area also includes Stralsund Wildlife Park and Marlow Bird Park, both zoos.

History and Culture

The surrounding area of Splietsdorf includes, among other attractions, Schlossberg, an ancient site, and Mönchstein, a monument. The wider regional area also contains Burgwall and Kucksdorfer Burg, both classified as ruins.

Historical finds indicate early settlement in the Splietsdorf area. After the Peace of Westphalia in 1648, Splietsdorf and the rest of Western Pomerania came under Swedish rule; in 1815, they became part of Prussian Pomerania.
