Jakobsdorf: History, Nature and Cycling

In the Middle Ages, Endingen was an economic estate of Neuenkamp Monastery. The estate remained in the monastery’s possession from its first recorded mention in 1273 until 1534. At the entrance to the square in Endingen, a glacial erratic bearing the inscription “Endingen” serves as a reminder of the place. Another historical reference is found in Grün Kordshagen: the Mönchstein commemorates the killing of a monk in 1490. The stone is now in the church in Steinhagen. Its present location is therefore different from the place to which the commemoration relates.

In 1896, a piece of antler from the Endingen giant deer was found in a sand pit. This discovery is considered the oldest evidence of settlement in northern Germany. It links a single archaeological find to a far-reaching historical interpretation and complements Endingen’s and Grün Kordshagen’s medieval history with a different perspective on the past.

The Endingen park concert is a recurring cultural event: it is held annually on a concert lawn in Endingen and features classical music.
