Dettmannsdorf is located in the Mecklenburgian part of the Vorpommern-Rügen district, southwest of Ribnitz-Damgarten in the Recknitz Valley. The municipality includes extensive forest areas, including the Dettmannsdorf Wüstung forest. The Recknitz borders the municipality to the south; the Dammerstorf Moor and the Maibachtal Nature Reserve are located within the municipality.
