Memorial Sites and Church History
A large cross and a memorial stone were erected on a hill in Dorotowo in remembrance of battles. A military cemetery was established on the shore of Jezioro Wulpińskie. These are distinct physical settings for remembrance: the cross and stone stand on a hill, while the cemetery is on the lakeshore. This contrast places each memorial site in its own setting.
The tower of the Church of Blessed Dorota z Mątów rises above Dorotowo’s buildings. Present and former parish residents financed the construction of the tower through donations. Its striking height above the village buildings and the story of how it was funded are among the church’s distinctive details.
A former Christmas custom is also part of the village’s history: on Christmas Eve, farmhands appeared in Dorotowo with a Warmian szemel, accompanied by a musician playing an instrument. Unlike the cross, memorial stone and church tower, this custom was tied to a particular evening in the year. It complements the permanent structures with a historical Christmas Eve tradition.
Natural Monuments by Jezioro Kepijko
Two linden trees beside the road beyond Jezioro Kepijko are natural monuments. The three-trunk linden is listed with trunk circumferences of 212 cm, 210 cm and 290 cm; the two-trunk tree is described as having circumferences of 212 cm and 190 cm. A direct comparison shows both different trunk configurations and different measurements: the largest individual circumference is 290 cm for the three-trunk linden and 212 cm for the two-trunk tree. These figures make the distinctive features of each linden clear through the measurements of its individual trunks.
Cycling and Other Impressions
An 11 km cycling route runs from Dorotowo through Majdy and Kręsk to Stawiguda. The sequence of places gives your planning a concrete framework; check current route conditions before setting out. A municipal project also proposed connecting the pedestrian and cycling path with the existing cycling route along ul. Wulpińska in Tomaszkowo, as well as with Dorotowo and Majdy.
During a photo walk in 2026, the group met at the beach and then walked through the village. They were looking for characteristic, “postcard-worthy” views of Dorotowo. Unlike the cycling route, whose length and sequence of places are specified, this walk focused on photographic subjects in the village.
