Churches, Architectural History and Remembrance

The Evangelical Methodist church in Dąbrówno contains frescoes from the 14th and 15th centuries. Access is restricted: it can be viewed from the outside and is open during church services. The frescoes give this religious building a medieval character; visitors must also observe the stated access rules.

The Catholic church Kościół katolicki pw. św. Jana Nepomucena i Niepokalanego Poczęcia NMP is a Neo-Gothic building. Its distinctive furnishings include a medieval stone holy water font that was transferred from the church in Leszcz. Here, the Neo-Gothic architectural style is combined with an older object from another church building.

The synagogue is also part of Dąbrówno’s architectural history. It was built of brick at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. Another historical remnant in the town is a fragment of the medieval fortification walls; a second fragment is located behind the bus stop. This location makes this part of the town’s fortification history easy to pinpoint.

A memorial site is the chapel in Dąbrówno, dedicated to the victims of the Powstanie Warszawskie (Warsaw Uprising). It is considered the oldest surviving monument commemorating those who fell in the uprising. Since 2005, a remembrance ceremony has been held at the chapel every year on August 1. Anyone interested in the history of the Warsaw Uprising will find a place explicitly dedicated to its remembrance here, as well as a regular annual event.

Historic Transport Routes

The former railway connection is also part of the town’s history. In 1910, the locally important Samborowo–Turza Wielka line was routed through Dąbrówno; it was part of the Działdowo–Ostróda transport connection. The water tower at the exit from the town towards Rychnowo is one of the surviving remnants of this former railway line. The line and the tower point to two different aspects of the same railway history: the route of the connection and a surviving relic.

Cycling Routes, Lakes and Water Route

There are four signposted cycling routes within the municipality of Dąbrówno, with a total length of 77.70 km. For trip planning, both the number of marked routes and their combined length provide concrete points of reference. There are also twelve lakes in the municipality where residents and tourists can spend their free time. Lake Dąbrowa Mała is located near Dąbrówno. A canoe route along the Wel River passes through it. Anyone interested in a trip on the water can consider this route as a separate activity alongside the cycling routes. The lakes and canoe route thus complement the historic sites with nature and outdoor activities in the municipality and surrounding area.
