Bełcząc was founded in 1428 under the original name Grosdorf. In historical records from the 15th and 16th centuries, the place appears under several names, including Grosdorf, Beltzuntzken, Beltzuntz, Beltzuntze, and Beltzunzen.

The historical origin of the settlement is described as being in the area of the Great Wilderness and on the Beltzuncky Stream, also called the Bełczyński Stream. An inn in Bełcząc is mentioned in records from 1476 and again from 1539.
