Ahrenshoop

The seaside resort of Ahrenshoop is located where the Fischland peninsula meets the Darß, on the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula, between the Baltic Sea and the Saaler Bodden lagoon. Ahrenshoop became particularly well known for the artists’ colony founded here at the end of the 19th century. Today, reminders of this heritage include the brightly painted Kunstkaten in the village centre and, above all, the modern art museum.
Coastal dynamics: The wind-shaped cliff known as the Hohe Ufer, south of the village, presents a new appearance every year. Only a small section of the beach below the cliff is protected from the direct impact of the Baltic Sea waves by a stone groyne. North of the cliff, the coast gives way to a dune landscape that needs to be protected by a dike. The Darß Forest, north of the seaside resort of Ahrenshoop, marks the beginning of the Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft National Park.
The more than 2,000 guest beds along the road are spread across hotels, guesthouses, holiday apartments and holiday homes. A holiday in Ahrenshoop means combining a Baltic Sea beach, certified with the “Blue Flag”, with incomparable natural surroundings and a wide range of tourist and cultural activities, from water sports to creative arts.
