A Journey to the Baltic States

The three countries of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania only regained their independence in 1990 and have been members of the EU since 2004, yet the Baltic region remains something of a hidden gem in Europe. This large-format illustrated book introduces readers to the region in an inviting way.
The Baltic states offer so many fascinating facets, natural wonders and cultural highlights that a trip there should be right at the top of your “Where shall we go?” wish list.
The seemingly endless coastline alone is captivating. Taken together, the three countries have a coastline of more than 5,000 kilometres, including their many offshore islands. According to local legend, a giant named Tõll once created the landscapes along the Baltic Sea. It is said that he played with enormous boulders as if they were marbles, piled up sandy beaches and shaped bays.
Alongside the vast expanses of nature, the cities of the Baltic region are also a delight. First and foremost, of course, are the three lively capitals of Tallinn, Riga and Vilnius, with their beautiful old towns, numerous churches and vibrant cultural scenes. But you shouldn’t overlook smaller places such as Tartu or Kaunas, either.
There are many ways to get around the Baltic region: by car or motorhome, as well as by train, bus, bicycle or kayak. Some people also experience its unique landscapes on horseback. But no matter how you travel around the Baltic region, one thing soon becomes clear: life moves a little more slowly here than in the rest of Europe. Relaxation is therefore guaranteed.
