Strohkirchen is located in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, about 20 kilometers south of Schwerin and seven kilometers east of Hagenow. The village lies on the northern edge of the Griese Gegend.

The Neue Kanal flows through Strohkirchen and continues as the Strohkirchener Bach. There are also several other small waterways. The nearby Buchberg is another local feature.
