Walking trails around the lake and forest

A walking tour around Militzsee begins in Crivitz at the end of Freiheitsallee. It follows Liebesallee, lined by old small-leaved lime trees, to the village of Bürgerholz. If you would like to explore a different route, you can walk around Lake Crivitz: on the return leg, the trail follows the erratic boulder nature trail along the lakeside promenade. Another circular trail goes around Lake Crivitz and through the arboretum. You can choose between these walking routes based on their respective destinations: Bürgerholz, the lakeshore or the tree park.

Tree species and lakeside scenery

The Crivitz Arboretum is a seven-hectare tree park with 132 tree and shrub species from around the world. Two educational trails provide information about around 100 tree species and 30 shrub species. The park thus offers not only a green contrast to the open lakeside landscape, but also specific points of interest for a walk: you can learn about different woody plants along the trails and take in the diversity of the tree collection.

To the north of Crivitz, the Warnow, a small, wild river, invites you to go paddling. Lake Crivitz itself, by contrast, is used exclusively for fishing. The town church and everyday life in Mecklenburg

Crivitz Town Church is a three-aisled Gothic hall church built of brick. Its tower is 40 metres high; the church probably dates from the late 14th century and was renovated in the Late Gothic style. Historic wall frescoes from the time of its construction and from the Renaissance add to its architectural features. If you are interested in church architecture and historic wall paintings, you will find several points of interest in this one building.

The Crivitz Local History Museum presents everyday life in Mecklenburg around 100 years ago through a variety of rooms and workshops, including a classroom, a living room, a kitchen, a bakery, a barber shop and a blacksmith’s workshop. These different exhibits make the museum a distinct focus for cultural history. Another trace of the past in the townscape is the former Crivitz synagogue. It is a few metres from the market square on Fritz-Reuter-Straße and is recognisable by its distinctive architecture.

Cycling tours and getting here

The “Around Crivitz” cycling tour is 81 kilometres long. On the recommended route, paved farm tracks alternate with sandy sections; for short stretches, it also follows roads with traffic. This information can help you decide whether the tour suits your interest in longer distances and varied surfaces. Schwerin and Parchim are also useful to know about for getting here and taking excursions: both cities are easily accessible from Crivitz by bus and train.
