Open-air theatre in summer
Every summer, the Störtebeker Festival presents open-air theatre in Ralswiek. If you would like to combine your trip with a theatre visit, this offers a seasonal reason to visit that is clearly distinct from a stay focused on the harbour or the surrounding landscape. Three free large car parks are available for festival visitors, within walking distance of the natural stage. The entire festival site is accessible and can be reached by wheelchair. Harbour and trail through the landscape park
The harbour in Ralswiek is equipped as a water-sports rest stop for surfers and sailors. Alongside its location on the Bodden, the village therefore has a specific connection to activities on the water. The Bodden Panorama Trail offers a different perspective. It leads through the landscape park of the castle estate into the village of Ralswiek. History and castle architecture
In the early Middle Ages, Ralswiek was the island’s economic centre. Nearby is the “Schwarze Berge” burial mound field near Ralswiek, with more than 400 burial sites from the Slavic period. The dead from the opposite Ralswiek maritime trading post appear to have been buried in the burial necropolis. This cautious attribution points to a connection between the necropolis and the trading post without presenting it as certain. If you are interested in the village’s history, this provides another historical point of interest alongside its present-day theatre and harbour.
The castle architecture is also part of the village’s character: Schlosshotel Ralswiek is housed in a magnificent Neo-Renaissance castle with ornate Art Nouveau elements by Henry van de Velde.
