Nature and trails in the Peene Valley

The Peene Valley River Landscape Nature Park borders directly on Quilow. There are opportunities for hiking and activities on the water. This makes it a nature destination for travellers who do not want to spend all their time in one place, but would like to include both land-based and water-based activities in their plans. The landscape in the Peene Valley provides a setting for excursions with a range of focuses.

From Quilow, a path about 2.5 kilometres long crosses the fields to a passenger ferry, which also carries day-trippers with bicycles to Stolpe. The passenger ferry crosses the Peene between Stolpmühl and Stolpe. When planning, consider not only your destination but also the route to the ferry: allow for the approximate distance from Quilow and decide whether you want to cover the stretch on foot or by bicycle. The distance of about 2.5 kilometres refers to the path across the fields to the ferry.

Getting to the riverbank

On the Quilow side, cars are not permitted to drive all the way to the riverbank. There are lay-bys along the path to the water. If you are travelling by car, you can take this into account when planning: the drive does not end right at the riverbank, and the walk to the water remains part of the excursion. This makes it easier to distinguish between a drive to the riverbank and a drive directly to the water.

Culture and history in Quilow and Klein Polzin

The moated castle in Quilow was renovated and reopened in 2020 for exhibitions, concerts, readings and workshops. These uses indicate the range of cultural events on offer, from exhibitions and events featuring music and readings to workshops. Quilow may therefore appeal to you not only for its natural surroundings but also if you are interested in cultural events and historic buildings. It reopened in 2020.

Another destination in Quilow is the “Trabbi” barn, one of the sights in the municipality of Groß Polzin. Klein Polzin is home to three megalithic tombs in and beside the Schnelle farmyard. The municipality thus offers a range of themes: the Trabbi barn as a sight, the moated castle and its cultural events, and the megalithic tombs as traces of earlier times.
