Meesiger on Lake Kummerow

Meesiger lies directly on the shore of Lake Kummerow. Those choosing a holiday destination for its water and nature experiences will find a connection to the lake here, while cycling routes, walks and local history appeal to other interests. Lake Kummerow is one of the waters richest in fish. It offers surfers favourable wind conditions and plenty of space for their sport.

Experience the lakeshore and landscape

The landscape can also be viewed from a route: the section of the Ice Age Route from Malchin to Meesiger offers a good view of the terminal moraine on the western shore of Lake Kummerow. This view of the geological landscape offers a different perspective from a day on the water. Those who prefer to explore on foot can hike along the Seeberge hills by Lake Kummerow.

A nature trail about 3.5 km long runs between Gravelotte and Verchen. It provides information about local flora and fauna. This makes it particularly appealing to travellers who want to combine observing nature with a manageable walking distance. The approximate length helps with planning the day, without implying a specific walking time.

Cycling and water activities

Meesiger-Gravelotte has a well-developed network of cycling paths, including signposted cycling routes. This is one way to explore the surrounding area by bike; the Ice Age Route also offers the previously mentioned view of the terminal moraine. Those who prefer to plan their trip around the wind and water will find that Lake Kummerow offers favourable wind conditions and plenty of space for surfers.

Gravelotte: beach and rest area

The Gravelotte campsite has a natural beach on Lake Kummerow with a large sunbathing lawn. There is also a separately designated bathing beach for dogs. Those who consider beach facilities for their dog when choosing a destination can include this designated area in their plans. The campsite also offers 120 pitches on an unsegmented four-hectare site.

At Gravelotte bathing beach, Zuckerfee serves soft ice cream, crêpes, candy floss and coffee. The Gravelotte waterway rest area has a specific rule for boats coming alongside: they must report to the harbourmaster immediately after mooring. This expressly applies also to short-stay visitors who intend to moor for just one hour.

A historical highlight in Meesiger

The Church of Meesiger is part of the village’s history. Farmers from Meesiger built it as a fortified church after the Thirty Years’ War. This historical feature complements the landscape experiences with a cultural aspect and offers another point of interest for visitors who want to learn about the history of the village as well as enjoy nature and activities.

A longer route around the lake

Those who want to explore the surrounding area beyond individual outings can follow a route of about 45 km around Lake Kummerow. At Aalbude near Verchen, you can take the ferry across the Peene. This regional tour is a longer option than the approximately 3.5 km nature trail between Gravelotte and Verchen. The two routes differ considerably in length and course; choose according to how much walking you want to include in your trip.
