Cycling between Berlin and Usedom
Berlin–Usedom Long-Distance Cycle Route
Usedom has traditionally been known as Berlin’s “bathtub”. Even between the two world wars, Berliners could reach Usedom, the sunny island on the Baltic Sea, by train in just over two hours. Today, active holidays of all kinds are on the rise, and more and more holidaymakers are interested in making the journey itself part of the experience. Cycling tours are an ideal way to do this. At last, tour operators and authorities have responded to demand and created a long-distance cycle route from Berlin to Usedom. As well as adding signs to existing cycle routes, they have also built some new paths or at least made them suitable for bicycles. Cycling maps have naturally followed, giving active holidaymakers a useful guide to take along. Among the many options, the Esterbauer publishing house’s cycle-tour guide to the Berlin–Usedom long-distance route stands out. Its 100 pages describe the individual sections of the route, and the scale of 1:75,000 allows even small details to be shown. Alternative routes and additional “detours” are also described. Maps of the centres of individual towns are shown at an even larger scale. In addition to route profiles and section lengths, the guide contains plenty of information on interesting sights, including some a little way off the route, as well as contact details, rest stops and accommodation. GPS tracks, available for use after registering online, provide further help with navigation.
The format fits standard map cases, and the paper is weatherproof and tear-resistant, so it can withstand a few raindrops.

Usedom, Szczecin Lagoon and UeckermĂĽnde Heath Cycling Map
The entire area between Greifswald, Neubrandenburg, Prenzlau, Szczecin and Świnoujście is a paradise for cyclists. It also lies right between Berlin and the Baltic coast of Usedom. With its cycle-friendly terrain and scenic beauty, it is especially worth exploring. The routes are fairly hilly, but run through plenty of woodland, while numerous lakes add variety to the landscape. The region encompasses northern Uckermark, the eastern part of the Mecklenburg Lake District, the river valleys of the Tollense, Uecker, Randow and Peene, and the island of Usedom with its appealing coastal hinterland. This large-format map, at a scale of 1:75,000, shows the area with all the necessary detail while also providing a good overview. The grid is GPS-compatible, and town maps complement the map. Information on climbs and distances helps cyclists avoid unpleasant surprises when planning routes and travel times. Numerous notes on sights and information centres in the towns, as well as accommodation, make it easier to plan and enjoy your tour.
